((Woo hoo, yay, I have a board for my home! Lol, too bad it's being pillaged by pirates. I'll just post here in time before we get attacked. Yay! Lol))
Milday KC, wake up!
KC moaned and opened her eyes. Her room was still dark, which meant that she was being woken up at an unusual time. She sat up and looked over to the window. Josie and Sam, her two favorite maids, were opening the blinds. The sun was just peeking over the horizon.
She gave Sam a confused look as she walked over to help her out of bed. Sam, why are you waking my up so early?
Because, Milday, your father...
Just then, the door opened, and two of KC's father's maids, whose names she did not know, walked in. They were each carrying an end of a rather large box. They stopped in front of her, smiling nervously. She could see the strain in their faces. Was the box really that heavy?
Father walked around the maids and up to KC. KC, darling, I have a surprise for you. He gestured to the box. Go on, open it. He was smiling broadly.
Smiling back to her father, pleased that he was getting her a gift on no occasion, KC lifted the lid off of the box. Inside was a red velvet gown. She lightly ran her fingers over the material.
One of the maids holding the box grunted.
Oh, I'm sorry, she said. She lifted the dress up, and as soon asshe did, the maids let out a breath of relief, letting their arms hang down by their sides again.
KC held the dress up to examine all of it. Golden thread formed rose patterns on the bottom of the dress. There was off-white lace around the neckline, the bottom, and the sleeves.
Father, it's beautiful. She shot him a questioning look. But why would you get me something so extravagant for no occasion? Surely, if there was no occasion, you'd get something a little less...I don't know...expensive?
He smiled. Go, try it on. She nodded and went behind the screen, Sam and Josie following her.
Well, he said as KC was getting dressed. I was hoping you'd wear it to Lieutenant Gillette's promotion ceremony tonight.
I knew it! There was an occasion! She laughed, but it was cut short when Josie tightened the corset of the dress.
KC, something wrong? Father asked.
No...She gasped. Not at all.
Finally it was on, and she stepped out from behind the screen to show her father.
He smiled in satisfaction. You look beautiful!
She smiled and nodded, unable to say anything else.
He smiled back. Then he motioned toward his maids. Come, let's go, we have things to prepare. They left.
She dismissed Sam and Josie. Then she took off the dress and put her sailing clothes on. She had a voyage on yet another cargo ship today. Then she put the dress on over it. Somehow, Ishemanaged to get it one right by myself.
She walked downstairs, and, seeing as her father was nowhere to be seen, she left without saying good-bye.
